Muddling Through a Merger – Elsmere Gracey

“Muddling Through a Merger” is a comprehensive research project in the aftermath of a financial organisation’s merger. It establishes the adverse effects that change has on the human element.

The purpose of the research was to examine the sources of resistance experienced during the change process. Research instruments were reviewed and tested; a case study approach was selected using both a quantitative and qualitative approach collected by an inductive strategy to unravel avoidable problems.

Strategic recommendations are made for the future, which incorporates a wide range of stakeholders.

The lessons from “Muddling Through a Merger” demonstrate the high importance of valuing employees, and how leaders should supply honest communication when an organisation is going through a transitional period.
